Safaa A. Turner-Rahman

Former Outreach Intern

I chose to intern for Lionheart because of their mission and values in regard to underrepresented and impacted communities, which I believe were similar to my own. This was an opportunity that allowed me to learn while still making an impact, and I believe the work they do is important, so I wanted to be a part of that.

Within my role as an intern, my primary responsibilities were reaching out, via various different methods, to different organizations and spreading information on the program EQ2. Some other minor responsibilities were researching and further "investigating" these organizations to try and get more information on staff training, especially when it wasn't so readily available as others.

My experience volunteering with Lionheart was so enriching as it helped build up my communication and research skills, as well as getting me out of my comfort zone a little and molding my personality to be more personable. This internship has really prepared me for the professional world ahead, and it couldn't have been done without all the kindness I have felt from the staff and other volunteers.
