Youth Project

Lionheart helps at risk youth gain social, emotional and behavioral skills to stop violence, and substance abuse.

In 2003, The Lionheart Foundation launched The National Emotional Literacy Project for Youth-At-Risk. This project consists of two major programs, Power Source and Power Source Parenting.

Lionheart’s program for youth at-risk, POWER SOURCE is now on Crime an evidence-based repository of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) that serves as a clearinghouse of information about what works and what is promising in justice programs and practices. Power Source is also included in the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s (OJJDP’s) Model Program Guide.

1. The Power Source Program for youth at risk

The Power Source Program was created to help adolescents break cycles of negative risk-taking, violence and addiction.

Through this initiative, they learn strategies to carve out a new way of life – helping them break cycles of negative high-risk behavior; heal shame, anger and grief; and emerge with a new sense of self and a positive future orientation.

I decided to run a group with Power Source. The kids loved it. It’s an amazing program. I have been looking for something like this for a long time.

Power Source Parenting is awesome!   When I started reading the book I did not want to put it down.  I felt I could relate to the stories in the book whether I was 14 or 24 years old.  I am 24 now and I can remember when I had my first daughter at 14, having the feeling the teens in the book described. This book has offered not only many techniques and skills to better myself as a parent but has now offered me the opportunity to pay it forward.
