Wrapping Up
Well Done!
We're just about finished with this Introduction to EQ2. We'll end with a brief quiz, then discuss how to use Staff Surveys in EQ2.
Staff Surveys
While EQ2 does not have formal Pre- and Post-Test assessments, we do offer optional Pre- and Post-Surveys, which provide an opportunity: 1) for facilitators to shape the EQ2 Program to meet the stated needs of your staff; and 2) for staff to reflect on the skills they have learned as a result of the training. These surveys can provide facilitators and administration with important information:
- Before (Pre-Survey): What do staff identify as the most challenging and stressful situations they face? How can EQ2 address those concerns?
- After (Post-Survey): What have staff learned after going through the program? What additional support might be helpful?
Providing staff with an outlet for their voices to be heard can go a long way in improving morale and job satisfaction.
To most effectively administer the Surveys:
- Spend time explaining EQ2 and the Survey to staff. The Survey can be a great opportunity to introduce EQ2 and how the program will be used in the agency. Make sure staff know why they are filling out the Survey and exactly how it will be used. You can share it alongside the "What is EQ2" handout!
- Respect confidentiality and anonymity. Staff should not have to put their name or other identifying information on the Survey.
- Complete the Survey close to the start of the group. A good length is 1-2 weeks prior.
Giving the Pre-Survey
In the first section of the Pre-Survey, staff rate the issues at work that stress them most. You can use this information to guide you as you go through EQ2, focusing on issues that your particular group finds the most challenging. Then, staff have an opportunity to share what they'd like to get out of group in an open-ended way. With this responses, you may choose to:
- Bring in the Supplemental Materials, like those from the Supplemental portions of the EQ2 Handbook, or from EQ2+;
- Conduct extra Circles, or;
- Simply use examples regarding those issues as you go through EQ2 in order to address their areas of stress.
You can always change or add items to specifically evaluate areas you are concerned about or would like to focus on. But, be mindful of survey length.

Giving the Post-Survey
The Post-Survey assists facilitators in understanding areas of continued need for support in their staff. It allows staff to note what they feel they've gained, as well as what needs continued focus. Facilitators can then:
- Conduct additional groups, either revisiting content from the EQ2 handbook or using material from EQ2+ or EQ2 Supervision;
- Engage in reflective Circles;
- Increase the use of resiliency practices, or;
- Work individually with staff in these areas.
We recommend administering the Post-Survey as close to the end of the program as possible, and no later than two weeks after the program is finished.

Assessing Change in Specific Areas
If you are interested in assessing more specific areas of growth, there are additional measures you can look into. We'd be happy to talk more with anyone who might have questions about these. You can always email us at [email protected]!
- The Attitudes Related to Trauma-Informed Scale (ARTIC): a well-validated and reliable measure of staffs’ beliefs related to trauma-informed care. Has options for both short- and long-form.
- The Organizational Trust and Resilience Assessment (OTRA): a robust assessment of staffs’ beliefs surrounding organizational leadership, culture, and safety.
- Burnout: The Pre- and Post-Survey both contain one item assessing staffs' perceived burnout. Since the Surveys are anonymous, it won't be possible to track individual changes in burnout; however, you can track changes in perceived burnout across the group (compare the average group burnout score from the Pre-Survey to that of the Post-Survey).
